Amoonguna Art Centre is a community owned venture supporting the local artists.
Our many artists are mostly Arrernte (pronounced Arenda) and Warlpiri, with some Pitjinjatjarra people. English is a second or third language at Amoonguna, which is only 15km from Alice Springs in Central Australia.
Many of the artists paint in vivid colour, with striking symbolic language, based on ancient language written in sand or clay.
A new sculpture enterprise is being established currently at the centre, specialising in recycled glass and metal. Keep an eye on our website to see the innovation in progress.
13th, 14th and 15th of June 2008 will be the Art centres inaugural annual festival. This years festival will be called 'Mwerre Alpeme', Arrernte for 'Good Return' in line with the environmental theme and recycling techniques on display.
To visit the Art Centre at least 24 hours notice is required, as Amoonguna is a private aboriginal community. Our artists enjoy welcoming visitors, especially those serious about Aboriginal Art.
